Sheep Shearing

Move over, headless horseman, the sheep are coming! Sleepy Hollow is home to not one, but two, annual sheep shearing events: Sheep Shearing Festival at Stone Barns and Sheep to Shawl at Philipsburg Manor.

Sheep to Shawl. Philipsburg Manor, 381 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591, 914-631-8200 weekdays, 914-631-3992 weekends. April 14-15 and 21-22, 2012. 10 am to 5 pm. Celebrate the arrival of spring on the farm! Scottish border collies display their amazing skills with sheep-herding demonstrations throughout the day, while newborn lambs frolic, much to the delight of children. Explore each step in the process of turning wool into cloth using 18th-century techniques: shearing fleece, dyeing wool, spinning, and weaving.

Kids can try their hands at 18th century entertainment, like rolling hoops and stilts, and storyteller Jonathan Kruk is on hand to regale audiences with local tales.

Artisanal lunch items and treats will be available for cash purchase from local vendors in the Farmers Market. Tickets are required, and this event often sells out. $12/child, $15/adult.
